Rustbelt Trio-2006

Three Blue Teardrops established 1991

Rustbelt Trio
A-OK - Shocked - Lincoln '59 - Alone At Last - Headin' For Disaster - American Way - Hard-Boiled - Little Lovely - Lord Send Me An Angel - Damage Control - The Dead Know Nothing - I still Dream Of You - I'm Still Standin' Here
This is the newest album (their fourth) from this trio, more than 10 years after their debut release ‘One Part Fist” on the legendary British label Nervous Records. I’m a huge fan of Alan Wilson’s work as a musician (The Sharks) or as a producer (Frantic Flintstones, Gazmen, Colbert Hamilton…) but I was a little disappointed by his production on “One Part Fist”. I think he tried to give some kind of English psychobilly sound to a 100% American band which didn’t really fit them. The two following albums are now very hard to find but are more reflective of what their true sound is. So is “Rustbelt Trio” produced and released by the band. Here you have a real wild rocking and stomping modern rockabilly album made of 13 songs (all band’s originals, half written by guitarist Dave Sisson and the other half by upright bassist Rick Uppling). One of their best quality is to be able to mix genres, adding traditional vocals harmonies on heavy rockers, or enhance what could be a classic hot rod song (Lincoln 49) with a fine and swing drums beat. Harmonies and superb brushed snare can also be found on “Alone At Last”, a teenagers’ song with a modern edge. The sound hardens a bit on “Headin’ For Disaster”, which talks about alcoholism and self destruct (Stayin’ out late at the beer joints, poppin’ pills and livin’ hard / Drivin’ too fast on the highway, slow at work and feelin’ tired / You’re lookin’ older everyday you spend gettin’ bent / But pretty soon this gift you got is going to be spent). “American Way” is a true heavy rockabilly or psychobilly (call it whatever you want) song which shouldn’t be out of place in The Quakes repertory. Nice! Changing the mood a bit, “Lord Send Me An Angel” is what you can expect with a title like that, a fine ballad with just the guitar and a very light snare, and once again traditional harmonies on the chorus. And right after this calm and peaceful moment they rush into the wild “Damage Control”. Another change of tempo comes with “The Dead Know Nothing” a western ballad with Mexican trumpets, gunshots and percussions ala Ennio Morricone. An Everly Brothers influence can be heard on “I Still Dream Of You”, and the album ends with “I’m Standin’ Here”, dedicated to Stiff Little Fingers’ Jake Burns, but the message is clear and can apply to Dave, Rick and Randy. It’s very good to see the band back in action, with a all-killer/no-filler album. With the new interest toward psychobilly in the USA, it would be more than justice to find them, who were among the first with The Quakes to play that music in America, achieving the same level of success The Reverend Horton Heat did.

Heads Up For '53-First American Records 1991-1993 NEW REISSUE!!!

Has been REISSUED as THIS! Heads Up For '53

THE recordings that made Three Blue Teardrops reputation as the baddest, grittiest, nitro-fueled Rockabilly bastards straight outta the Rustbelt!

This collection of recordings has an overly complicated and convoluted history, first being self-released 1n 1992 as "Heads Up! For 53 Here Comes... Three Blue Teardrops!" Later the band signed a deal with London based Psychobilly label Nervous Records & re-recorded 8 of these early tracks which came out in 1993 as part of the "One Part Fist" cd. The band then signed a deal with Florida based Teen Rebel Records in 1994 and released most of these American tracks in this collection on the"(Stiletto) Poised In Hate" CD. After the label folded in 1998, these recordings became unavailable and increasingly rare to the point used copies were sold and ridiculously high prices and bootleg copies were being sold in far flung places like Los Angeles and Germany. Finally the band got pissed off enough to reissue it themselves.

So... here you have it: The OFFICIALLY sanctioned, Lo-Fidelity, 4 and 8 track early complete recordings of THREE BLUE TEARDROPS, all recorded by engineer and rock scene stalwart Chuck Uchida at his Attica Studio in the heady early days of the Wicker Park rock scene of Chicago, Illinois in 1991-1994. EVERY track from the band's original cassette and Teen Rebel release is contained here including outtakes, alternate takes and some shit that should probably never see the light of day. Enjoy this document of some classic early American raw Garage Punk-Rockabilly and Psychobilly from one of the United States earliest purveyors of this exciting genre!

Hotter Than Hell Compilation
An Injection of Psychobilly Madness (Hairball8)
by Jon Sarre

Psychobilly: a catch-all term for "Rockabilly recast for a sicker age," to quote Jon Savage in his England's Dreaming history of early punk. Basically ya got Gene Vincent growin' up in a suburban no man's land with a room fulla Ramones records, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and speed. That's still only a generalization, cuz it's a big ol' banner that could possibly encompass the Cramps, Horton Heat, Elvis Hitler, Portugal's Tedio Boys, maybe even Social Distortion or the Gun Club or hell, any other buncha greasers with aspirations to be the punkrockingest Stray Cat on the planet. A metal band with a stand-up bass and a horror flick fixation could be psychobilly. Ditto for anybody this side of the Dead Milkmen stylin' themselves "Country Punk" or a buncha true-to-life Charlie Feathers freaks who kept the faith regardless of reality (sure that term's relative here).

Hairball 8's comp, Hotter Than Hell, doesn't claim to set the record straight, but it does give ya 27 numbers of the beast and that oughtta shed some light on the monster. Highlights to name-drop include The Hellbillys' "Demons," sorta Roky Erickson-type paranoia, and Los Infernos' "Lucky Few," which outweighs even fat Elvis, heavy man. Speaking of the King, Helvis And The Helvettes do his Vegas-era "C.C. Rider" with all the love you'd expect. The guys in the Hillbilly Hellcats spout threats and imitate Johnny Cash on a number called "Hillbilly Cats on Speed." For Reverend imitations, look in the direction of the Hooligans who do "if I had a heart" lament solved on "Junkyard Heart," but Bad Luck Streak outdoes 'em in the Horton Heatisms with a better song called "I'm Not Sick."

Curse Of The Pink Hearse sound like overamped Mexican Stray Cats and Three Blue Teardrops do Dwight Yoakam straight-faced and Ray Stevens too (yipes!) in their alien comedy-drama "Major Trouble (From Ursa Minor)." Speaking of comedy, but actually funny, ya got Deadbolt's Mexican-jail torture laugh riot, "The Interview." Even funnier, if ya find hiccupping amusing, is the Mutilators nutso head-kickin' "Sweet Little Jenny." Bea Pickles' whoops-forgot-to-take-the-vocals-up "Frazzled" is real cool, and (gasp) fronted by a gurl! Pat C. Kline's just-woke-up-and-recorded-the-damn-thing "The Devil's Got Your Soul" is about as mellow as it gets, but ya can't say that 'bout Los Gatos Locos' "Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight." 100% aggro, Jack, so if ya see any of these guys, make friends fast, or stay the fuck away.
